We are extremely encouraged by the legislative deal reached by Senator Joe Manchin and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 includes the largest investment in climate action in U.S. history. If passed, this bill would give us a running start towards achieving our climate goals, provide a pathway to decarbonize our economy, and create good-paying clean energy jobs across the United States. But it would still leave us short of our goal to cut emissions by half by 2030. If passed, non-federal leaders and the Biden administration will have to step in and fill the gaps needed to reach our climate goal. We are short on time, not ambition, so it will take a whole-of-society approach to finish this race. To ensure we have a fighting chance to meet our climate goals, we must accelerate the climate work of cities, states, tribal nations, business, and other institutions. We urge the Senate to go all in and pass this bill as quickly as possible.
