Charlotte, NC – Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, a Co-Chair of America Is All In, released the following statement after Vice President Kamala Harris and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael Reagan announced $20 billion in awards to fund tens of thousands of climate and clean energy projects at an event in Charlotte. Part of the $27 billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF), created under the Inflation Reduction Act, these investments will accelerate the clean energy transition and help us reach our climate goals. Eight organizations were selected to oversee the spending of the $20 billion, and will create a national clean financing network that will help communities across the country, especially disadvantaged and low-income communities, build the clean energy projects of the future.

Statement from Mayor Vi Lyles:

“As Mayor of Charlotte, a city leading on climate action, and co-chair of America Is All In, the nation's largest coalition of institutions at the state, local, private sector and community level committed to climate action, I was proud to host Vice President Harris and Administrator Regan for a monumental announcement regarding the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF). Last summer, Charlotte kicked off America Is All In's Cash In on Clean Energy Tour that brought over 170 attendees from across our region and all corners of the public and private sector to learn how to make the most of federal resources including the GGRF. We know first hand how much people appreciate this support and how critical it will be to creating real benefits in people’s lives all around the country.”

Financing clean energy projects will be crucial to reducing our emissions and meeting our climate goals. America Is All In will be hosting a webinar this week to discuss the tools to finance sustainable projects in the U.S. using green municipal bonds and concessional and market-rate finance available through domestic green banks.

About America Is All In
America Is All In is the most expansive coalition of leaders ever assembled in support of climate action in the United States. Mobilizing thousands of U.S. cities, states, tribal nations, businesses, schools, and faith, health, and cultural institutions, the coalition is focused on pushing and partnering with the federal government to develop an ambitious, all-in national climate strategy that meets the urgency of the climate crisis; scaling climate action around the country to accelerate the transition to a 100 percent clean energy economy; and promoting the leadership of non-federal actors on the world stage.

Led by the U.N. Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions Michael R. Bloomberg, Washington Governor Jay Inslee, Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, Apple Vice President of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives Lisa Jackson, and former White House National Climate Advisor and and 13th U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy, America Is All In, supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, is driving a nationwide movement to cut U.S. emissions in half or more by 2030 from 2005 levels and reach net zero emissions by 2050, while guarding against the impacts of climate disruption.

Alongside whole-of-government action on climate, America Is All In champions a whole-of-society mobilization to deliver the transformational change that science demands, with the goal of a healthy, prosperous, equitable, and sustainable future.
