Monday, March 25, 2025 – Gina McCarthy, 13th U.S. EPA Administrator, former White House National Climate Advisor, and the Managing Co-Chair of America Is All In, is kicking off a nationwide college tour to engage students and the public on the critical role local climate action plays in creating jobs and building healthier, safer, more affordable cities. McCarthy will visit schools in North Carolina, Massachusetts, New York and Colorado, with more stops likely to be announced.
“We have a responsibility to give young people the best chance possible at a clean, safe, and healthy future,” said Gina McCarthy. “The good news is, cities, states, businesses, and local institutions are not powerless. Many are already speaking out and challenging illegal, unwise, or unjustified actions being taken by our federal government that fail to build on the climate progress our country has already made. At the same time, they and many everyday Americans across our country continue to work together to drive forward innovative climate and clean energy policies and investments. That is why I am so excited to have the chance to speak directly with young people across our country. They need to know how hard people across our country are working to deliver the kind of clean energy jobs, energy security, clean air, and lower energy costs that their future demands."
The tour comes at a crucial moment for climate action: 2024 shattered temperature records and cities across the United States experienced a historic number of extreme weather events, costing taxpayers billions of dollars. Local leaders across U.S. cities and states can drive forward policies and programs that will cut fossil fuel use, unlock the clean energy economy, and build healthier and safer communities.
America Is All In is committed to galvanizing local climate action. Last week, the coalition welcomed California Governor Gavin Newsom as the newest Co-Chair of America Is All In. Governor Newsom join McCarthy, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, and Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb as Co-Chairs to advance local efforts that deliver innovative clean energy projects, bring good paying jobs, and lower energy costs for communities across the country.
McCarthy’s schedule is below, with additional details to be shared.
- March 25: Wake Forest University with former EPA Deputy Administrators Janet McCabe and Stan Meiburg, Winston-Salem, North Carolina
- March 28: Harvard Kennedy School with Kate Wright, Executive Director of Climate Mayors | Cambridge, Massachusetts
- April 10: Cornell University with Mary Nichols, former Chair of the California Air Resources Board and Anne Thompson, NBC News Chief Environmental Affairs Correspondent | Ithaca, New York
- May 19: Colorado School of Public Health’s Convocation Address | Aurora, Colorado
