Friday, March 21, 2025 – Today, America Is All In announced California Governor Gavin Newsom as its newest Co-Chair, reinforcing the critical role of U.S. subnational leaders in advancing climate progress. Governors, mayors, businesses, and communities are stepping up with tangible policies and actions needed to cut emissions and build a clean energy future. Governor Newsom’s leadership will further strengthen America Is All In’s mission to scale climate ambition, build resilient communities, and build confidence around the world that the United States is contributing to global climate efforts.

Gavin Newsom is the Governor of California, and the former Lieutenant Governor of California and Mayor of San Francisco, who has championed efforts in his state and on the global stage to combat the climate crisis. Newsom has led engagement with climate leaders and governments around the world to elevate ambition and accelerate climate action. Newsom addressed the United Nations at the 2023 UN Climate Ambition Summit, showcasing California’s leadership on climate and highlighting the urgent need to cut fossil fuel emissions. He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the U.S. Climate Alliance, where he works alongside other governors to advance forward-thinking solutions that will allow the U.S. to meet its climate targets.

“With the all-out assault we’re now facing on low-carbon, green growth from the federal level, it’s the subnational leaders – those of us leading our states and cities – who have to step up. In California, we’re not slowing down our work to slash pollution and dominate clean industries of the future. In fact, we’re ramping up because it will take all of us to meet this moment. I’m looking forward to joining America Is All In as a Co-Chair and working alongside our international partners on this critical work,” said California Governor Gavin Newsom, Co-Chair of America Is All In.

“As governor of the fifth largest economy in the world and a climate leader for decades, I could not be more thrilled to have Governor Newsom and California once again showing America and the world that climate action doesn't just cut greenhouse gases, it creates jobs, new businesses, and innovative technologies that make our energy, safer, healthier and more affordable,” said Gina McCarthy, Managing Co-Chair of America Is All In. “I thank Governor Newsom for being a leader that states, cities, businesses, and local groups can all look up to. Together, we will pick up the baton and represent the U.S. on the international stage, so that our friends and allies around the world know that at the subnational level, the U.S. is fully committed to putting in place policies, practices, and technologies that cut fossil fuels to protect our health, our safety, and our economy.”

California continues to be a leader and crucial partner in climate action here in the U.S. and abroad. Just this week, Governor Newsom announced that millions of Californians will receive an average of $137 in credits on their April gas and electric bills through a state climate program. Having more than doubled its publicly accessible chargers since 2022, California’s nation-leading electric vehicle (EV) charging network now has nearly 50% more EV chargers than gasoline nozzles. Governor Newsom also signed an agreement with the Mexican state of Sonora focused on developing more clean energy, expanding access to renewables, and advancing efforts for cleaner air. And this year, California is expected to provide $2.4 billion in utility bill credits through the state’s Cap-and-Trade program, saving California residents hundreds on utility bills. For the past 10 years, the program has delivered a total of $10.9 billion in bill credits back to Californians. America Is All In welcomes Governor Newsom’s leadership and whole-of-society approach to accelerate ambitious climate action.
